How the Uniform Guidance Applies to Tribal Governments and Tribal Organizations
Maria Howeth, MBA, CGMS, Director of Project Support, The Chickasaw Nation
The uniform guidance has given tribes their own definition and distinction. In the old circulars, tribes were grouped with States, which led to some confusion when applying for and receiving federal grant funds. Tribal governments and tribal organizations have some exceptions in the uniform guidance, however they are not completely exempt when accepting and managing federal grant awards. Tribal governments and tribal organizations also have exemptions when their federal funding is awarded through the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA). This training is designed to give basic information on tribal grant management, how the uniform guidance affects tribes and the difference between funding received by federal grants and funding received through the ISDEAA.
Understanding Subrecipient Monitoring and Management: A Practical Approach
Andrea Deaton, CRA, Associate Vice President for Research, Executive Director, Office of Research Services, University of Oklahoma
Do you ever lay awake at night and wonder if your subrecipient monitoring practices will pass an audit? Have you ever wondered how to apply the subrecipient monitoring and management requirements in the Uniform Guidance in a practical way to your own entity’s business practices? Do you have an affinity for making a list and checking it twice? If you answered yes to one or all of these questions then this session is for you! Complying with the subrecipient monitoring and management requirements in the Uniform Guidance is a requirement when receiving federal funds, but sometimes it can be overwhelming to think of everything that needs to be done to stay in compliance with these requirements while at the same time following your own entity’s policies and procedures. This session will provide an overview of the requirements, along with examples of compliance strategies that can become part of an attendee’s subrecipient monitoring toolkit.
