Creating a Best Practice Through Training

Mildred Lloyd, Management & Program  Analyst, Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Financial Assistance Policy & Oversight

The Department of Homeland Security has a department-wide effort underway to train and certify its staff who work on grants.  The goal is to mitigate areas of greatest risk in the Department’s delivery of financial assistance and to build a well-equipped, certified financial assistance workforce for the future.  The webinar will provide participants with an overview of the effort, its results to date, and provide an opportunity for participants to learn more for possible use in their own workplace.

Learning Objectives

  1. the approach undertaken by DHS to build and obtain management support of its agency-specific financial assistance training and certification program
  2. the design of the program and accomplishments to date
  3. how other federal awarding agencies and non-federal entities can replicate the DHS methodology
